Mythology & Religion

I absolutely love doing pieces based on mythology, especially any kind of reproduction of mythological sculpture.

I feel like the fact that there’s a shared history and background in mythology for a lot of cultures, makes mythology a theme that feels palpable and that can be touched upon from different angles.

When it comes to religion or religious depictions I’m a bit more cautious. I will do a piece of a deity or god as long as that person is or was an active member of that culture so as to avoid cultural appropriation.  I will also only do it if  after researching I don’t find any indication that tattooing such images would be offensive, disrespectful or frowned upon. For instance, I would never tattoo an image of Buddha as I know it’s seen as a great disrespect to have any kind of depiction that isn’t made specifically for prayer, especially tattoos. And even more so if it’s only part of the whole, like just the head of Buddha (which sadly has been used frequently by people as a tattoo subject).
